There are countless combinations of weapons, spells, and cloaks to experiment with and find your preferred playstyle, and each run gives you another opportunity to try out a new combination. I’ve waited a long time to find a platformer with the kind of precise combat that Hollow Knight offers, and despite its flaws, this has the best combat feel of any side scroller I’ve played since 2017. Magic Design Studios wanted to make a game about monotony but ended up making a monotonous game.ĭespite my frustration with the core loop, I’ve played Have a Nice Death a lot longer than I expected. Every joke can be boiled down to a spooky twist on corporate culture. The banality of bureaucracy has sapped Death’s passion for reaping, and the game narrative plays on that theme to the point of exhaustion. Across each loop Death has to deal with nagging interns, union reps, and the health and safety inspector. You play as Death, who has become physically diminished by burnout, and now seeks to recover by kicking the butts of overzealous and out-of-line employees. But while Hades endeared you to each of its characters by developing their personalities and teaching you about their motivations between each run, Have a Nice Death is laser focused on committing to its bit. There are a few narrative threads that evolve over time as you play, to help make restarting feel less repetitive. Those abilities add some nice variety to combat, but they’re not enough to make up for how dull re-traversing the same flat environments is every time a boss smacks you down in three hits. I appreciate systems like this because they reward skill and time investment equally so that anyone can accomplish their goals, and the progressive nature of the discount system means you have a lot of choice about when you decide to invest in new abilities. You can use currency earned during your run to unlock new spells and weapons, and it has a clever system that provides discounts to those unlockables for completing challenges. Learning how to avoid attacks and building skills to counter each boss should be a satisfying journey, but the structure of Have a Nice Death makes it extraordinarily punishing.Įvery death offers opportunities to progress, however. All of them have at least half a dozen attack patterns to learn, and once they reach half health they swap to a second phase of even more devastating attacks. Related: Hollow Knight: Silksong Playtester Gives Update After Missing Nintendo Direct There’s typically five or six floors you need to pass through before you reach that world’s boss, which quickly starts to feel like a chore after just a few runs. you’re able to choose what type of upgrade you want next - weapons, healing items, passive bonuses called Curses, currency for upgrades - but since the prizes always show up right before the next elevator, there’s not much incentive to explore. As you ascend from floor to floor through Death Inc. Have a Nice Death’s procedurally generated worlds have elements of Dead Cells’ maze-like construction, but the levels are largely made up of disconnected floating platforms that don’t give any real sense of flow or intentional use of space. Have a Nice Death is available now on Nintendo Switch and Steam.Unfortunately, the level design can’t support the quality of the artwork and animations. Ingots can also be used to reroll available contracts at the start of a new attempt. However, as players complete certain objectives they will unlock discounts that allow them to purchase items for significantly cheaper than the original price.Įven while making yet another attempt to beat Have a Nice Death, players can use Ingots to reroll Curses when they pick one. The interesting thing about a lot of the items and weapons that can be acquired is that they start off being ludicrously expensive. In the CEO's Office, players can use Ingots to customize and decorate the office space of Death himself.īeyond that, Ingots can also be used to unlock new weapons and food items that players can encounter and use during a run. For the most part, Ingots are used between attempts. While there are several different kinds of currency, Ingots are the only ones that players get to keep regardless of if they succeed or fail on an attempt. Ingots are the equivalent of currency in the game.

Matte will try to make things a little bit better if you select the area. You have Matte, Foreground, and Background. Now you have several settings for the Adjustment brush. So you're going to switch between these because they each work better in different situations. I could go to black and white like that and I can go to Transparent just making everything I haven't selected transparent there. I can go to Black matte or White matte to just make everything I haven't selected a solid color like that. Now notice how everything that we haven't selected is red and everything we have selected is its regular color. Click this Refine button here and it opens up a separate set of controls. So once we've done a little work adding and subtracting areas we can go to the Refine Tool. Grabbing pieces that I may have missed when I was zoomed out a lot more. I could keep adjusting the size for what I need and see how well I can do here. So let me go over here and further refine this area. You can do the same things by switching modes between Add and Subtract. I can hold the Option key down and then I click and it's going to subtract. Let's do say this and say oops it grabbed a little too much there. In some cases maybe it grabbed a little too much. I can fill in some of the spaces that it missed. Now I can click and select more of an area here. So let's go and shrink down the width of the brush selection tool here so I have something much smaller. Now I could just move around here inside of the image and look for places where things aren't perfect. I'm going to use Command and Plus to zoom in. Let's refine it first by continuing to stick with the brush selection tool. So now we've selected a lot of things here. How good a job it does really depends on how well the subject stands out from the background. Let's first just start by grabbing the general area that we want. We don't have to worry about it being perfect now because we're going to learn how to refine this in several different ways. You could see how it's going to grab some of the selection. So I can start selecting me by just clicking and dragging. I could also use the square bracket keys on the keyboard to do it. I can change that size and make it smaller or larger using this control. So notice the circle here is a certain size. Now up at the top here I've got a width button. I'm going to take that and I'm going to use it to select the subject as best I can. First let's go use the Brush Selection tool right here. You have several tools for dealing with this in Affinity Photo. The basic idea is to select just me and not any part of the background. Also just paste me into a different image. Let's cut me out of this and then do things to manipulate me and the background separately. There you could see there's me and a background. I'm going to drag and drop an image from the Finder into Affinity Photo. I think Affinity Photo seems to be the popular choice now as a Photo Shop replacement on the Mac so let's look at how to do it using Affinity. So many times in the past I've shown you how to cutout part of an image in a graphics app. Join us and get exclusive content and course discount. There you can read more about the Patreon Campaign. MacMost is brought to you thanks to a great group of more than 700 supporters. Today let's look at using Affinity Photo to cutout part of an image. Video Transcript: Hi, this is Gary with. And now they're constantly releasing even tier X premiums. Just look at Blitzstars winrate and see how many tiers are dominated by nothing but premium tanks, tier 7 and 8 are almost nothing but premiums at the top. But they sure don't mention that, do they? because they're a dishonest company to the very core, anyone that has played any of their other games will know this. Wargaming is incompetent and dishonest at every possible turn, oh they're finally removing the terrible spare part system, a problem they themselves created, and even giving compensation for it oh how nice of them! oh wait they did it because they were so stupid that they didn't realize that making credits less valuable hurt their bottom line since premium time was probably one of their most appealing transactions and probably only the biggest whales spend money on stuff like timers.Īnd the compensation? nice but ultimately hollow as the removal of spare parts from crates and missions actually means the regular resource income for players was significantly reduced overall, so the more you play the less the tradeoff was worth it. The monetization is beyond absurd, with single high tier premiums often costing beyond $60 if sold directly at all and not through loot boxes. Combined with a variety of battle arenas featuring rapid, action-packed, PvP combat, World of Tanks Blitz allows aspiring tankers to master their tactical skills, learn to take fast and calculated decisions on the battlefield, and team up in platoons with friends all across the world. The game itself is mostly fine, solid gameplay and surprising variety given that tanks have such limited variables, but just about everything else is terrible. Each class has its own set of strengths and weaknesses, giving a unique playing style to every model. “World of Tanks Blitz offers an impressive roster of over 190 iconic vehicles from Germany, Great Britain, the United States, and the USSR that are divided into 4 different classes: light tanks, medium tanks, heavy tanks, and tank destroyers. “With the addition of Windows 10 support, we’ll turn World of Tanks Blitz into a true cross-platform experience, expanding in-game opportunities for our player community and opening up the universe to a new and vast audience.” “World of Tanks Blitz has gathered a vibrant community worldwide, and we are excited to take advantage of the technology and gaming platform provided by Microsoft to broaden its reach even further,” said Wargaming CEO Victor Kislyi. However, Windows 10 users on tablets and smartphones will be able to cross-play with iOS and Android players, meaning a larger player base and less time waiting to get into a game. It’s one thing to play with a keyboard and mouse against someone who’s using a controller, but when they’re using touch-screen controls, it’s almost savage. On PC, World of Tanks Blitz will be playable using the classic keyboard and mouse setup, as well as a separate matchmaking queue from mobile players to ensure an equal chance of victory. Beyond just desktop machines and laptops, other Windows 10 devices benefit from the new release, such as smartphones and tablet computers. The free-to-play spin-off title is already available on iOS and Android, and will now be making the jump to Windows 10. World of Tanks Blitz is coming to PC, the game’s developer, Wargaming, has announced. These are our recommended settings for OBS Studio 29.1 and up. You may want to consider streaming at a lower bitrate and resolution to lower the bandwidth required to see your channel. This is important if your viewers are on mobile phones or their internet speed is not as fast. Twitch only offers guaranteed transcoding to Partners non-partners may receive transcoding depending on server load. Transcoding allows a viewer to view your video on a different resolution, thus requiring a lower bandwidth. Note for New and Upcoming Streamers to Twitch. For example, for Fortnite, many streamers decide to stream at 1280x720 60 FPS at 6,000 Kbps, down from 1920x1080. If you reduce the resolution, you reduce the data being encoded, and the resulting viewer quality is better. High motion content cannot be compressed as much, and can suffer from more artifacting (encoding errors) that make your stream look “blocky”. Racing games, FPS games, etc.) we highly recommend reducing your resolution. If you are going to stream high motion scenes (i.e. Most streaming sites have recommendations ( Twitch, Youtube, Facebook) on what to use. Then, we will determine the resolution and FPS that we can use for such bitrate. We want to use around 75% of your upload speed, as the game and other programs such as Discord will also fight for bandwidth. GeForce RTX GPUs have dedicated hardware encoders (NVENC), letting you capture and stream content without impacting GPU or CPU performance. While the same applies for framerate, a viewer can really notice a drop in FPS but not so much in resolution, so we will always try to stream at 60 FPS. The smaller the size of the image, the less we must compress it and the more quality it keeps. Note: we have simplified some of the concepts to make this guide accessible to a wider audience.Įncoding is all about compressing images. The objective of this guide is to help you understand how to use the NVIDIA encoder, NVENC, in OBS. Everything you can do in a real-time fight, you can do on the turn-based map, whether it's using your air force to scout an area, your engineers to remove mines or your artillery to demolish enemy units. Relic has created a 'holistic loop' that keeps the campaigns feeling inextricably linked to the RTS battles. You'll have discrete objectives, but otherwise you can explore and conquer these maps however you want, letting you make your own route to victory. How do Company of Heroes 3's campaigns work?Ĭompany of Heroes 3's campaigns are turn-based and take place on huge maps evocative of Total War. I had to liberate some partisan forces first, and then by making choices that favoured them, I unlocked a bunch of convenient perks. Instead, you'll use them on the campaign map to create traps and snatch up enemy intel. The partisans are a special faction in that you won't be commanding them like a normal army. The cooperation and tension between the Allies is a big part of the campaigns, so you'll need to juggle the desires of your subcommanders, who include an Italian partisan liaison. Importantly, you will actually be able to command both at the same time, giving you a very large toy box to play with. You'll be able to play as the German, UK and US forces, though on the campaign you'll just be playing the Allies. What Company of Heroes 3 factions will be playable? Interestingly, we've also heard that the selection of Italy as a setting was a choice made by the player council Relic is working with. "So the players are going to go through and play each mission one after the other and experience that whole story start to finish as we tell it to them." "The North African operation is a linear story," senior mission designer David Milne told me during its reveal. The North African campaign is a more straightforward RTS campaign than the open map of Italy. What I could have done in four hours took me 11. I played through a small slice where I had to take Monte Cassino, giving me a road to Rome, but along with my main objective were countless other battles, side missions and territory to conquer. We've only seen Italy, and it seems massive. You'll duke it out in a campaign set across Italy, and North Africa has now been confirmed as well, where you'll conquer territory, get into skirmishes and fight bespoke battles. After fighting through the Western and Eastern Fronts, Company of Heroes is now heading to the Mediterranean. She says she thought of Hesperides often when painting her newest collection of works for the Catto. Beautiful women secretly tending a magical orchard in the mountains? What’s not to like? The myth of The Hesperides has inspired artists down the centuries. The garden contains trees whose golden apples can bestow immortality. These are the opening lines of Tennyson’s The Hesperides, a poem about the mythical sisters who tend a garden at the end of the world. One thing for sure though, a mother would be hard pushed to find her youngsters here. The golden apple, the golden apple, the hallowed fruit, Guard it well, guard it warily, Singing airily. But one is never sure…it could be that they were actually sheep called mela (or apple in Greek) whose wool was spun to produce the golden fleece. They were sometimes linked to and even confused with the Atlandides, the Hyades and the Pleiades, all daughters of Atlas… As for the golden apples… they may well have been oranges. The Hesperides had many nicknames including “Ephimeron aeidousas” : superb singers as they sang so expertly, some even akin to birds at nightfall. To every poet, every City, the necessity of this story. Inconsolable after the loss of the fruit, the Hesperides had heavy hearts and turned themselves into trees for eternity. One thing for sure: it was Hercules who completed the eleventh of his twelve labours by slaying Ladon and seizing the golden apples by tricking Atlas. Or isn’t it Aegle, Arethusa and Hesperethusa? Are there four, seven or eleven of them? Who knows, but the buzz continues. And how many Hesperides were there? Most often there were three: Aegle, Erytheia, Hesperis. Mythologists say that Zeus or Phorcys were possible putative fathers. Some big fellow may have been involved… But whom? Probably Atlas, the owner of this garden on its mountains sides. These sisters were perhaps not the daughters of the original Night alone. As they could not be trusted to guard the apples on their own, Hera, the wife of Zeus, queen of the heavens and Olympus, dispatched Ladon, a hundred-headed dragon whose eyes never closed and whose heads all spoke a different language, to guard them and to prevent the residents of the garden from eating its fruit. The sisterhood of nymphs are its first guardians. The garden of the Hesperides is therefore under guard. This fruit is sacred because their magical power represents great danger. In this dark place, golden apples twinkle in an orchard. He lived there with his brother Vesper, the origin of the word “vespers” and the adjective “vesperal”, meaning of the evening. Punished, Atlas is a titan petrified by Jupiter or Perseus according to the stories. Hesperia was part of Italy, then Syrtes in Libya, Spain and Mauritania… In the western extremity the snowy peaks merged with the sky and the land plunged into the ocean: this was Mount Atlas, from whence we still owe the name given to the Atlantic Ocean. It represented the fringes of the known world and its actual location varies depending on the narrative and on maritime advances. These sisters kept the name of their country, Hesperia, the western land for the ancient Greeks where the sun set and the empire of night arose. Before marrying her brother Erebus she gave birth to a series of conditions that would be the lot of mortals: Destiny, Death, Sleep, Old Age, Discord, dark spirits, the Fates and the Hesperides… From this sprang Nyx, the Goddess of darkness. Right at the start there was Chaos or eternal primordial confusion. Beautiful and wise, their voices are enchantingly musical… And how clever these nymphs are at escaping being seen by quickly transforming into other objects! But how many of them are there actually? Who is their father? And where’s this garden that they inhabit? Maidens of the Evening, the Hesperides are the nymphs of sunset. Other characters include Frey's sentient bracelet Cuff ( Jonathan Cake / Satoshi Mikami), the archivist Johedy ( Keala Settle / Kyo Yaoya), and Auden ( Monica Barbaro / Sanae Kobayashi). Athia is under the tyrannical rule of the Tantas, which include Tanta Sila ( Janina Gavankar / Yū Sugimoto), Tanta Prav ( Pollyanna McIntosh / Rika Fukami), Tanta Olas ( Claudia Black / Mie Sonozaki) and Tanta Cinta (Kendal Rae / Kikuko Inoue). She uses magical powers to journey through it and survive in order to find her way home. The protagonist, Alfre "Frey" Holland ( Ella Balinska / Umeka Shōji) is a young woman who is transported from New York City to the fantasy world of Athia. The storm ends with the appearance of a named boss character. While the player is exploring the game world, they may encounter a "breakstorm", a scenario similar to a horde mode in which waves of demonic creatures spawn and attack Frey. The player can also craft new items, or rest at a safe location in order to restore health. Frey's cloak can be upgraded in order to improve her combat efficiency and stats, while applying nail polish unlocks special abilities. Following each combat encounter, the player earns experience points. The player character, Frey, has access to a variety of magical spells. The character exists in an open world game format where players are able to travel anywhere at any time. Square Enix also described the game as a "narrative-driven adventure". It was the last game by Luminous Productions before the company's closure on May 1, 2023.Īccording to director Takeshi Aramaki, the gameplay was designed to be focused on terrain traversal speed and fluidity. The game received mixed reviews from critics and failed to meet the sales expectations of Square Enix. It was released on January 24, 2023, on PlayStation 5 and Windows. Forspoken is a 2023 action role-playing game developed by Luminous Productions and published by Square Enix. One of them, the fallen god Galdera, was sealed away within the afterworld by the other deities after he refused to relinquish what they created. Octopath Traveler is set in the land of Orsterra, which was created by thirteen deities. A Boost Point is not gained the turn after using them. During their turn, a player can use up to three Boost Points to either strike with their weapons multiple times or increase the potency of an ability.
And that's reflected in everything from the diverse voice acting, to the powerful score, to the bold use of color. The Eastern Front was known for its horrifying body count and human wave tactics, but Company of Heroes 3 is trying to bring back a more triumphant and heroic mood that echoes Band of Brothers, Fury, or even Tarantino's ahistorical Inglourious Basterds. Infantry squads in good cover can hold their position better until reinforcements arrive even if they're under heavy machine gun fire and being strafed from the air – as long as those reinforcements get there quickly. You're less likely to see a tank go up in flames from one lucky hit. Infantry and vehicles will also be a bit more resilient than they were in Company of Heroes 2. Nearly a year after Relic Entertainment and Sega announced Company of Heroes 3, the next entry in the beloved World War II real-time strategy series finally has a release date.Today, Relic. There are plenty of scripted missions in the campaign that have you trying to complete objectives with a pre-made force as well. At least, in skirmish and multiplayer battles that's the case. But you will need to build specific structures to tech up and unlock better units. You won't be fiddling around with mines or supply depots like StarCraft – your resources still come from capturing and holding points across the map. In the slice I got to play, I really enjoyed the dynamism this adds and the way it rewards aggressive infantry doctrines, when previously my only option might have been to set up in my own unoccupied building and exchange ineffective fire with the enemy until one of us brought in enough heavy hardware to blow the whole front line to smithereens.īase building is also back, and it works roughly the same way it did in the first Company of Heroes. Breaching will allow your squads to kick the door down on a garrisoned building and chuck a grenade in to dislodge or destroy the defenders turtled up inside. As i said, I know my comp is old and low spec but this game is 3 or 4 years old. Infantry have new tools to take on a wider array of battlefield roles, too. I have intel p4 3.2ghz proc, with 2gig ram, and 7600gt nvidia card. And while I didn't get to play with them directly, it's also been confirmed that we can gain access to Italian partisan units, representing the local paramilitary fighters who resisted the fascist regimes of Hitler and Mussolini. I was particularly excited to see the Nepalese Gurkhas, one of the most fabled units of the war, finally making their appearance. Its proportions are fitting for this devastatingly massive conflict. In service to this philosophy, Company of Heroes 3 will have a greater diversity of infantry units than the series ever has, representing many different tactical roles and the wide array of nationalities that participated in the Italian campaign. Company of Heroes 3 is a beast of a game, cramming in two campaigns and four factions. |
